Awesome customer service and an amazing burrito, would think to get the burrito but it's the best in town!

The guy was extremely helpful to find my early dinner. I had bbq pulled pork sandwich with cheese. It was delicious for sure. The filling was very generous, toasted crispy and cheese was melted perfectly. Outdoor dining patio is huge. Can bring pets. Recommended.

I've been craving BBQ lately and when I rolled into South Lake last week I didn't hesitate to open Yelp and see what was around. I went in on a Monday night and there were a good amount of customers dining in and watching Monday Night Football. I couldn't decide what to get so I took the associates recommendation. Chicken, bean & rice plate. It did not disappoint. I ordered an Ice Cream Sandwich to go. Chose the Snickerdoodle & Blackberry Crumble. Delicious! I went back Tuesday night and ordered the Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese Sandwich, loved it! So much that I almost ordered another one to go. I went back a third time on my way out of town on Wednesday afternoon. Ordered the Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese again. All three experiences were 5 Star, all associates were very welcoming, the dining area was clean and comfortable. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in town.

3.5 STARS Date: Monday, September 2nd, 2024 Party of: 2 Meal: Dinner Takeaway Time Ordered: around 5pm Time Ready: about 30 mins later Ordered Thru: Their Website via Toast *#2 Sampler Plate ($24.79): Pork for Rib *Single Taco ($5.69): Mahi Mahi *Coleslaw ($5.09) *Macaroni Salad ($4.99) *BBQ Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese ($9.99): Pepperjack *Onion Rings ($6.09) I've been meaning to try Chicken In a Barrel for some time. The hubby has been busy doing stuff around the house, so it's been up to me to pick meals. Finally decided it was time for some BBQ. I see the building with their signage all the time while driving around the Y. However, I didn't realize they had moved, so it was a little farther away than I expected. So if you see their old building at the Y, they are much further down the street now. My fav thing hands down was the fish taco. The sauce was creamy, the lime added a nice tartness, and the tapatio rounded it out with some spice. The grilled cheese was also pretty tasty. Nice and melty, so made for a comforting bite. I wish their online system told us this came with sweet potato fries. Both the hubs and I do not like sweet potato fries so these just went in the garbage. It was a large portion too, so I felt bad. Would have either said no fries or asked for normal ones. There was a huge misunderstanding when I ordered the sampler plate. Completely on me tho. I thought I was swapping the pork for a rib. Not replacing the rib with pork. So instead of getting two ribs, we got no ribs. Oops! I couldn't tell the diff between the pork and beef. It all tasted and looked like pork to us. The chicken was good. A little too pink in some areas, but nice smoky flavor. Came with a side of chili which was kinda like a beef minestrone. I didn't care for the coleslaw. A little too sweet for me. Added a bunch of tabasco to cut thru it. Since they have a bunch of locations in Hawaii, I figured their mac salad would be more like a hawaiian mac salad. There wasn't much creaminess and it was rather bland. The hubs did seem to enjoy the onion rings tho. A popular place in Tahoe for BBQ. I do prefer another spot that starts with an S more tho. I may come back to finally try their ribs. I do love me some meat on the bone. REVIEW #3552 Part II *for some reason my review count didn't update on my last review

Yummy food. Atmosphere was so-so, but food tasted great. For Lake Tahoe, was pleasantly surprised

This place is a cool spot for some BBQ style food in South Lake. Everything is barrel smoked, so not classic BBQ. Tried the smoked chicken plate which came with chili and rice. My brother had the pulled pork burrito. Everything tasted good and portion sizes were good but nothing blew us away. When we came in the gentleman running the register was on the phone and seemed slightly annoyed that he had to put his call on hold. He did check in on us after we got our food and was nice about it. They also have a cool self-pour beer tap wall which is always fun especially in a touristy area like South Lake. Would stop again if I was in the area but probably wouldn't go out of my way.

A 4 star rating at a BBQ place is very high praise from me. First of all I am grateful for the dog friendly patio. They even brought out a bowl of ice water for our pups. Ordering is easy, at the counter, and all substitutions were allowed and the added cost was explained rather than just showing up on the receipt. We shared the combo plate that had 1 rib (I was told ahead it was only 1), a nice scoop of pork and one of pot roast, and a ¼ chicken. We wanted the chili beans which were included and upgraded to fries for $2. The only thing I feel it lacked was bread, but there was plenty of food. I also expected more fries, but the ones we got were fresh and very tasty. If you see a review claiming they had brisket, they didn't. It's smoked pot roast. It lacked the rich flavor of brisket, but it was my favorite protein followed by the chicken. The rib was just ok and I like mine cooked longer. It wasn't bad, it simply didn't stand out. The sauce was great for dipping fries. The meat really didn't need it. I would certainly go back if I'm ever in Carson City again. It was clean and everyone was friendly.

Never saw Chicken in a Barrel before at the Whole foods shopping center across from my timeshare. Turns out CIB moved 3 miles to this new location in late May. Tough to read the prices on the board, as too far from the ordering counter and the print too small. Wife ordered the $15.99 quarter chicken and I got the $24.29 sampler plate. Ambiance is excellent for a fast food place, with good lighting, floor to ceiling glass walls on three sides, super clean, and plenty of seating, both indoors and out. Did not check out the bathrooms. Service is excellent. Takes 7 minutes for our orders to arrive, on paper plates, with self serve plastic utensils and paper napkins. The quarter chicken comes with a leg, thigh, and part of a chicken breast. It is almost bloody red in the center just cooked. Very moist and tender but also a bit salty. Heavily smoked with only a mild bit of bbq flavor. The rib seems to be overcooked, with charred edges and dry on the inside. The shredded beef and shredded pork are excellent, moist and tender especially with the sweet bbq sauce added from the side. Cole slaw a bit tart and also too sweet with too much sugar. Brown rice OK but portion size dinky, and chili beans fine, especially with the strong tomato taste. Didn't taste any bacon, but wife may have ate both chilis and all the meat before I got to it. Still prefer L& L BBQ chicken but no L&L in SLT yet.

I had a quick and delicious meal at Chicken-in-a-Barrel! The staff were super friendly and accommodating! They welcomed us inside and were helpful as we deliberated what to order. It wasn't busy on a Sunday evening around 7. We opted for the variety plate featuring ribs, pork, beef, and chicken. All of the meat was flavorful - I especially loved the ribs and the chicken (of course!) Unfortunately, the coleslaw was a bit too sweet for me. The BBQ sauce was sweet as well, but had a nice tanginess to balance it out. The sweet potato fries were fresh out of the fryer - hot and delicious! We left Chicken-in-a-Barrel full and happy after an active day in the snow!
